About This Project

Backpack-OF HOPE

Help Give a Backpack of Hope to a Child in the Philippines

Mission

Our mission is to not only provide the means for the underprivileged in the Philippines through school supplies and scholarships/grants, but to eventually work towards a long-term goal of building a school that creates an environment for our youth where they are able to access their full potential, which may not only benefit the lives of these individuals, but also the entire world through their talents that have yet to be developed.

Summary

This project will provide backpacks with a year’s worth of school supplies and necessities to impoverished and underprivileged school children so they may have the tools to acquire the most of their education.

Reason being is that not having any pencils, paper, or even a fully-functioning backpack should not inhibit these children from making the most out of their education, which is why I believe starting out with providing the basic school essentials for these children is a great way to gradually make a positive impact in their lives.

Challenge

When we visited many of the poverty-stricken children of my native country last September, I was disheartened to find that the high costs of tuition, books, and school supplies are resources that are out of reach because their families struggle to afford their education.  Often, the children themselves are responsible for going to work instead of school in order to keep food on their family table.

As I got to know some of them better, they opened up to me about their dreams and aspirations.  They spoke passionately about their drive to finish their schooling and make a better lives for themselves and their families.  I was inspired by their ambition, positivity, and exuberance breaking through all the adversity.  It broke my heart knowing that poverty was keeping them from the brightest future. I knew from this point on I had to do something.

Solution

Through the ACA Scholarship Foundation’s Backpack of Hope Project, we are committed to ensuring that at least one of the costs related to attending school be alleviated for these children and their families. With your support, we will provide underprivileged children with school kits containing a year’s worth of school supplies including:

  • 1 Backpack
  • Educational Books/Workbooks
  • Pencil Case
  • Pencils
  • Pens
  • Colored Pencils
  • Markers

My goal is fundraise enough money by the end of April of this year and go back to the Philippines in June so that I can distribute the backpacks to these children right as their school year commences.

For only $25, you are providing one backpack with a year’s worth of school supplies for one child in need.

Long-Term Impact

This project will improve the overall learning environment for not only the many deserving children in the provinces of the Philippines, but to continue expanding our efforts to other third world countries consisting of many children eager to learn yet don’t have the resources to do so.

Several future projects we plan on implementing include funding libraries, computer labs, and other resources that allow for the growth of these young children to know that it is possible to achieve whatever their goals in life may be.
